Yeah, because that's the most common fan portrayal. Doujin of Vocaloids as robots are all over Pixiv and Piapro. That wouldn't prove anything.

Vocaloids are community property. Different artists write songs, make PVs, draw fanart...

If you're all from different worlds doesn't it make sense for them to be fan creations?

Fan creations are fan creations! Crypton hires people to write songs and direct or animate our videos. The rest is just fanart and fanfic. It has nothing to do with who we really are.

Fan creations are what we exist to be. A fan creation is who you are. Crypton doesn't hire anyone - Vocaloids are programs that people pay for.
