[in front of a certain oversized metallic carriage stands a Haku, peering up at it cautiously. She looks a little older than your regular Haku, and she's wearing a heavy dress, made from a thick fabric; but despite all of that, the heat doesn't seem to get to her. Not knowing what a bus is, she's more interested in what's in front of her, in the signs of life that she sees through the so-called carriage's windows, and wonders if it would be awfully rude to knock upon the door]

[placing her basket of apples against the ground, Haku wipes her brow with the back of her wrist, and manages to take an entire step forwards, before hearing someone approach her from behind]

Ah. Do excuse me. [she speaks without looking around, but moves to the side, bowing down low. Haku assumes that whoever it is wants to get back into the carriage. Perhaps its driver, then, but Haku can't begin to fathom how many horses would be required to pull such a vehicle]

[chuckles] My own children are always playing tricks on me, as well. I'm afraid I'm quite used to this, Toeto.

I'm really sorry, e-to, b-but it's not a game, Haku-san. I w-would'y play a trick on you. Th-That would be mean, an' most Haku-sans are r-really nice to me, so I wouldn't do that.

[Toeto looks around] There's a s-sign. E-to, it explains everything a l-lot better.

I suppose I'll play along, if I must. [heads over to the sign, reading it carefully] ... did you write this yourself, Toeto?

[Toeto shakes her head] Uh-uh. E-to, I think Kaito-san wrote it. A l-long time ago. It's been here s-since before I was, an' I've been here a v-very long time.

E-to, but it's got e-everything you need to know. It's a very good sign. I mean, I d-didn't see it for a long time after I g-got here, but I met some n-nice people who explained it to me anyway.

You mean to say that it's true? I suppose magic can be manipulated in any number of ways, but... [hums thoughtfully] You couldn't tell me who your parents are, could you?

[Toeto ponders this, then shakes her head]

W-Well, there's Len-san. I mean, e-to, a Len-san who wears a white c-coat and is r-really smart. He t-takes care of me sometimes.

Or d-do you mean Luka-san? E-to, if you do, then I d-don't know. I mean, there are l-lots and lots of Luka-sans, b-but I don't know which one made me.

Luka? I'm afraid it doesn't ring a bell. You do look awfully reminiscent of someone I once knew, though... [sighs, mostly to herself] Len, you say? Ah, one of my children has the same name.

[Toeto's eyes go wide with wonder] You're Len-san's mom? Wow...

I mean, e-to, you're p-probably not my Len-san's mom, 'cause he's kind of older.

...b-but who do I remind you of, Haku-san? I mean, I'm just Toeto. I should p-probably remind you of Luka-san, but you d-don't know her.

I am indeed. [looks a little proud] And it's no one, really. Just an old acquaintance of mine, whom I used to work for.

Oh.

Well, y-you don't have to work for anybody here, i-if you don't want to. E-to, you could, if you d-did, but really everybody can p-pretty much do whatever they want.

Really? Doesn't that cause all manner of difficulties?

[Toeto shrugs] S-Sometimes.

But most people here are r-really nice. Even to me. E-to, and we do l-lots and lots of fun stuff!

Also, we've got s-super heroes here who can beat up the b-bad guys if they do bad stuff. E-to, like this one Miku-san. She made a p-prison, e-to, and sometimes she's there a-all by herself!

Excuse me? What was that about Miku?

Miku-san?

Oh! She's r-really strong an' tough an' she has a big sword. E-to, she's a h-hero who used to g-go on adventures, but she d-doesn't anymore. Now she protects the d-dressing room.

...but she's p-probably not the Miku-san you know.

Sorry, Haku-san.

Miku, with a sword? No... that can't be my Miku, in that case.

Well, there are l-lots and lots of Miku-sans here. E-to, m-maybe yours' is here, an' she just d-doesn't know you've got here yet.

E-to, I'll l-let her know, if I see her.

You would? I'd appreciate that very much, Toeto.

[She beams, and salutes] It's n-no problem at all, Haku-san.

E-to, b-but until then, you should p-probably find a place to sleep.
